The Story Behind the Logbook
The Night Everything Changed
In 2011, I was a city kid. I was a student at the University, and my life was mostly about logic, circuits, and exams. Back then, "travel" just meant safe, comfortable trips.
Then, some friends invited me to Sri Pada. But we didn't take the stairs; we took the Dehenkanda route. It is the longest, toughest trail through the heart of the Peak Wilderness.

I was completely out of my element. I remember my backpack feeling like a lead weight in the monsoon rain. I remember the leeches. We were so slow that we had to camp in the middle of the dark forest because we simply couldn't go any further.
That night, lying in a wet tent and listening to the ancient forest breathe, something shifted. The next morning, standing on the peak as the island woke up, I realized I didn't want to just "visit" places anymore. I wanted to find the parts of Sri Lanka that most people never see.
15 Years of Finding the "Unseen"
That one trip started a fire in me. For the last 15 years, I’ve spent every spare moment exploring the island's hidden corners.
I didn't go out there with a notebook to "document" things; I went out there to explore. Over time, those memories turned into a massive personal archive:
- 30+ Mountains climbed (often where the trails don't exist on a map).
- 130+ Waterfalls found by following the sound of water into the brush.
- 50,000+ Photos that serve as a map in my head for timing and secret turns.

The Journey Evolves
Life is different now. I’m married and have a family, but the adventure hasn't stopped. We just do it in our old Montero iO.

This SUV is our reliable, rugged companion. It’s not a shiny rental; it’s an old 4x4 that takes us where most people are forced to turn back. It allows us to reach the edges of cliffs and hidden streams that remain silent and untouched by regular traffic.
Why I Share These Memories
I started Lanka Logbook because I’ve realized that most travelers miss the best version of Sri Lanka simply because of timing.
- They arrive at a waterfall at noon when the sun is too harsh for photos.
- They crowd into the same famous spots on long weekends because they don't know where else to go.
I’m not a tour guide. I’m just a guy who has spent 15 years exploring where others don't. I want to share the "Pro Tips" I’ve learned—like the best time to arrive or how to reach a hidden spot—so you can find your own "Dehenkanda moment."
Welcome to the Logbook. Let's find the quiet side of the island together
